Spain signed the program Halcón II for theadquisition of another 25 EF2000 T4.
As the F-18 C belonging to the Ala 46 in Canary Islands are getting to their las years of their life, the Ejército del Aire y del Espacio signed the adquisition of 25 EF2000 T4 to substitute the old aircraft. The cost of this program is around 4000 million euros. The first units will arrive in 2026, but they might come earlier, due to Airbus increasing production rate.
This contract implements the Halcón I program, wich consisted in the adquisition of 20 EF2000 T4. These aircraft will gradually substitute the F-18 in Torrejón and Zaragoza air bases, wich are also getting old, but the priority are the F18 C early, because they need expensive manteinment are are starting to become uncompatible with modern sistems, as they are second hand aircraft from the US Navy.
Spain operates 69 EF2000 T2, T3 and T4 (initially they were 72, but one was given to Austria, other crashed and the other two were given up). This will increase significantly Spanish air power.
